Wonderful haul of 12 wickets for 67 runs by Arun Patel went in vain Orissa lost to Assam by three wickets on the last day of their three-day Ranji Trophy East Zone match at Nehru Stadium, Guwahati today. This was Orissa’s third loss in 13 Ranji Trophy matches against Assam.
Put into bat by Assam captain Abani Hazarika, Orissa were bundled out for 100 in the first innings. In reply, Assam made 116 to take slender lead of 16 runs. Patel achieved his best bowling success in a first-class innings, bagging seven wickets for 34 runs.
In a low-scoring match, Orissa suffered batting debacle for the second time as they were wiped out for 119 in the second inninngs. Chasing 104 for victory, Assam lost seven wickets before being able to overhaul the target. Patel once again was the most successful Orissa bowler, capturing five wickets for 33 runs.
